School Transportation
Local Authority's must comply with their statutory duties towards children regarding transport arrangements in accordance with Section 508B of the Education Act 1996. Section 444 (5) of the Education Act 1996 defines walking distance as two miles for under-eights and three miles for those of eight and above. This is measured by the nearest available route which the child (accompanied if necessary) may walk with reasonable safety.
Social Services
Cases involving Social Services usually tend to be quite complex. The common problems encountered usually relate to resources being provided which are insufficient to meet the individual's needs or are too late in being delivered. It is also common to receive inappropriate advice of the resources and facilities available.
Tribunal Appeals
Sometimes it is not possible to reach an agreement with your Local Education Authority (LEA) regarding your child's special educational needs (England) or additional learning needs (Wales). At these times your right of Appeal to The First-Tier Tribunal (HESC) (England), Special Educational Needs Tribunal for Wales (SENTW), or Education Tribunal for Wales (Wales) may be the only option available to you.
